Insurance fraud always garners the headlines, but when someone associated with the industry becomes involved in illegal behavior, it makes everyone stand up and take notice.

That’s probably the last thing that 30 year-old Ashley C. Waddell wanted to have happen while she was working as a licensed public adjuster in Greensboro, N.C. But that didn’t stop her from allegedly taking advantage of her position. According to an investigation conducted by North Carolina’s Department of Insurance, she bilked one of her clients out of thousands of dollars after they had just suffered a catastrophic fire loss.

North Carolina’s Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin alleged that Waddell, who owned International Loss Services in Greensboro, took more than $89,000 in insurance claim payments from Farmers Insurance Company. The insurer had originally issued the payment to Waddell's client for damage caused by a house fire.

Waddell, however, ended up getting burned, having since been charged with felony embezzlement, obtaining property by false pretense, and writing a worthless check. She is being held in a detention center under a $40,000 secured bond, and additional charges are pending.

    • I am a victim of Ashley waddell's embezzlements.. if any of you have an insurance claim, DO NOT use a public adjuster. you can handle your own claim. if you are not satisfied in the end--hire a professional claims adjuster. Then you only have to pay one person. the claims adjuster has more experience and knowledge about your claim than a public adjuster.

    • I understand she has been to court and lied under oath about this situation, saying that the client she STOLE from actually gave her permission to use the money for her boyfriend. She has been given 3 years to pay back the money or risk a minimum prison sentence. She never hesitated to steal the money so why must her former clientt whom trusted her suffer for her greed. These are not the only people she stole from. There is a blind couple in Goldsboro she stole thousands from as well. Just check her out and then wonder what is wrong with the system???????????????????? She has a million $$$rancch in Greensboro with high $hoorses on the ranch, but she has no assets. Makes you wonder???????

    • Ashley Waddell/Roe/Bloodsworth stole a check from a couple that lost every thing in a tornado. The father and daughter almost lost their life. She will be going to court 4-23-2010 in Greene County we need to support this family. Call the newspaper, tv station and the prosecuter who will hear this case. She stole $89,000 from another couple and was given 3 years to pay it back and if she doesn't she will have to serve 3 MONTHS in Jail. Is this how our system works? This happened in Wake County.
